Not everyone can become one of the 90 tutors helping more than 90 adult students develop the literacy skills needed to survive and thrive, but anyone can become part of Project Read – Menlo Park during the second-annual Silicon Valley Gives 24-hour online fundraising event and party on Tuesday, May 5.

“Come to our website, click the donate button and help us continue to buy books, supplies, offer classes, online resources and much more,” says Linda Carlson, the Project Read – Menlo Park Literacy Partners Board President. “We really also are looking forward to greeting new friends at our party from 5:00 to 7:00 pm that day at the Menlo Park Public Library (800 Alma Street).”

There will be a dedicated workstation for the public to use for Silicon Valley Gives online donations. The results of donations will be made public online and at the party.

“Our participants are really a community of students, volunteer tutors, staff, donors and sometimes a combination of any of these roles,” says Roberta Roth, Menlo Park’s Literacy Program Manager. “We have students who go onto to become tutors, and both tutors and students often become donors.

“We are grateful to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation for making the one-day fundraiser and educational event possible for us and many other worthy nonprofits in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.”
