The Redwood Chapter of Young Men’s Service League, which includes many Menlo Park and Atherton moms and sons, honored their first graduating class at a banquet on May 3 at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center in Menlo Park.

Founded in 2012, with only a Freshman and Sophomore class, the Redwood chapter now has a full membership of boys in 9th through 12th grades. Young men and their mothers perform community service for a variety of local organizations, including Habitat for Humanity Resale Store, The Silicon Valley Bike Exchange, St. Anthony’s Padua Dining Room, There With Care, and Village Harvest. In addition to philanthropy, boys learn leadership and life skills through monthly meetings.

At Sunday’s banquet, 26 were honored for their service and leadership. Additionally, 16 young men earned the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for performing 24 or more hours of community service.
