“Impressions,” a selection of Jared Sines’ oil paintings, is featured in September at the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park. A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm.

This show features some of the artist’s favorite subjects, from the fountains and flowers of Allied Arts Guild to the venerable waterways of Venice, Italy.

The artist explains: “I like to paint ‘optimistic’ themes, offering a dose of serenity to the inhabitants of our often frantic, pessimistic world.”

Jared’s work has been popular among collectors of fine art since he began showing his trompe l’oeil still life paintings at Shreve and Co. in San Francisco, while he was a student at San Francisco State College in the early 1960s. Since then, fine art galleries and retail establishments have exhibited his paintings on a continuous basis. Today, they are on display at the New Masters Gallery in Carmel, and the Garden Gallery in Half Moon Bay, as well as the Portola Art Gallery in Menlo Park.

Jared and his wife are long time residents of San Mateo, where they raised their son and daughter and try not to spoil their five grandchildren. He taught painting and drawing at the Pacific Art League in Palo Alto for about 10 years, and worked in advertising, commercial art, and the decorative arts before retiring.

The Portola Art Galley is located within the Allied Arts Guild (75 Arbor Rd.) in Menlo Park.
