M-A’s canned food drive another resounding success

Menlo-Atherton High School leadership teacher Michael Amoroso emailed us a report of this year’s canned food drive, which culminated on Dec. 5 with distribution day: “We raised over 100,000 pounds of food which was delivered directly to Second Harvest Food Bank.
“Our monetary donations are still being counted but I do know that we raised over $25,000, with over $12,000 of that being spent on fresh produce, fruits and vegetables, and over 500 hams.
“The amazing part, and perhaps the most rewarding, are the students who went canning. We had every academic level of student involved, from Mr. Nelson and Ms. Lee’s English Language Learner population to Mrs. Otsuka’s Advanced Placement Literature class.
“Distribution day at Ecumenical Hunger brought a diverse group of students from clubs to our supportive Global Leaders coalition here on campus and our wonderful parent volunteers.
“Our gratitude and respect go out to all the grocery stores who allowed and granted permission to allow our students to can in front of their stores.”
