Wonder why your Christmas tree hasn’t been picked up? Here are some clues

by Linda Hubbard on January 7, 2016

After calling Recology San Mateo, we have some answers. The trees are being picked up by a special collection service (not the regular compost truck) and must be under 8 feet, and be completely bare — no stand or lights. Trees over 8 feet must be cut in two.

So, if you’ve left your tree at the curb and it doesn’t fit those requirements, that may be the reason.

But in our little corner of Menlo Park, three trees that do fit those requirements — and have been curbside for two weeks in a row — have yet to be picked up. The Recology representative said she’d alert the driver and send out a truck. So, you may need to call.

Note: After January 31st, tree pick up service will cease. If you still have a tree at that time, it will need to be chopped up and put in the compost bin.
