Emails Praveen Madan: “I am very pleased to share that Kepler’s has won a significant award for our work on transforming the bookstore into a sustainable cultural institution. Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) recently selected Kepler’s from many qualified nominations to receive their Sustainability Award. This exclusive award recognizes businesses, community groups, and individuals in San Mateo County who are demonstrating an outstanding commitment to bringing sustainable practices to their work and the local community.

“SSMC’s definition of sustainability has three parts, or 3 E’s: Social Equity, Economic Vitality, and Environmental Impact. The award was determined through a competitive process with community nominations, vetting, reference checks, and voting by the award committee of the SSMC organization.

“Kepler’s was nominated by our long-term loyal customer Nancy Crabbe, who is a retired public librarian and used to be a volunteer at Kepler’s events. The selection committee was especially impressed by our work on building a highly democratic organization, improving staff wages and benefits, and our public commitment to getting to a starting wage of $15 per hour for our staff this year.

“As part of the recognition, SSMC produced a professional video about Kepler’s that can be seen here.”
