Menlo Oaks annual picnic 60-plus years and counting
Menlo Oaks neighbors met at Peninsula School on Sunday, June 12, for the Menlo Oaks District Association (MODA) annual picnic. The picnic has been held at the school since 1958. Prior to that, it took place for many years on Madison Way. However, no one remembers the year of the first picnic.
Mary Lou Collyer does remember first bringing her family to the MODA picnic in 1957. Today, her son Rich Collyer serves as president of MODA, and he was once again there Sunday cooking hamburgers, hotdogs and chicken for picnic-goers. More than 100 adults and kids enjoyed the potluck picnic as well as badminton, a variety of relay races and blowing bubbles.
MODA works on behalf of its many members with the County to solve traffic, safety, and tree problems brought about by the sudden growth challenges facing this part of San Mateo County.
