Atherton hosts Family Faire and Farmers’ Market on a hot autumn day

Atherton hosted an inaugural Family Faire and Farmers’ Market today across from its historic train station, an event underwritten by an anonymous Atherton family.
There were games for kids; meat, flowers and produce for sale; a food truck for ready-to-eat snacks with picnic tables nearby; and an informational booth about Atherton’s proposed new Town Center.
Atherton Now is the non-profit organization that is attempting to raise $25 million for the new Town Center. As of July 1, it told the Atherton City Council that it had raised $5.6 million from 50 donors.
Measure L, passed by voters in 2012, requires the town to build the Town Center primarily with private donations without using general funds or parcel tax money. If the money is not raised, a bond measure could be placed on the ballot in a future election to fund the new complex.
