Donations sought for special holiday celebration for homeless veterans in Menlo Park

Kathleen Daly, owner of Cafe Zoe emails: “Year after year, our community has shown the most amazing support for a very heartwarming event for homeless Veterans who are hospitalized over the December holidays. Last year, over 50 reusable shopping bags were packed with brand new slippers, warm jackets, sweatshirts, pants, and toiletries and taken along with a catered holiday dinner to a unit at the VA Hospital.

“In addition, each Veteran was able to request a special gift: for one a train set, another a Raiders jacket, another, a set of books, another, a rain-suit, and for another, a new pair of shoes to replace the old pair that was duct-taped together (this particular request returns year after year). In addition, a wonderful catered holiday meal is served to the Veterans and the Hospital staff who care for them. The meal is sponsored by Oak Grove Christian Ministries/Veterans’ Fund and we are always grateful for their partnership.

“Please join us in this effort to raise the funds to make this event memorable again this year. The dinner and gifts will be distributed on December 23.

“We are accepting cash donations and checks, which can be made payable to our non-profit partner “Get Human Inc.” In addition donations can be made online by visiting the Get Human Inc. website. Tax deductible receipts will be issued by “Get Human Inc” Your contribution will be spent filling the 55 bags and special gifts.

“Please know your donation will make a huge difference. In the beautiful spirit of community, thank you.”
