Laura Pitchford visits the markets of Santiago, Chile
Atherton resident Laura Pitchford journeyed to Chile last fall to visit her niece who is teaching college English in Santiago.
One trip highlight was the chance to have dinner with one of the descendants of Faxon Dean Atherton who was one of the first property owners in the mid- Peninsula. His wife was Chilean, and the town of Atherton is named after him.
The other highlight was the chance to visit three different markets — devoted to fish, flowers and vegetables. Laura knows her way around a camera but had left her “big camera and equipment” home and traveled instead with her iPhone 8.
Featured here are photos from those markets. If the produce and flowers look familiar that’s because Chile’s climate is similar to California.
