Mystery Readers discuss “no love lost” on February 21

by Contributed Content on February 17, 2024

On Wednesday, February 21 from 3:00 to 4:15 pm, join the Mystery Readers online to discuss No Love Lost stories of love gone horribly awry — whether involving lovers or spouses, familial relations, or other soured passions.

A few leads:

The Devotion of Suspect X, by Keigo Higashino: Yasuko Hanaoka thought she had escaped her abusive ex-husband Togashi. When he shows up one day, the situation quickly escalates and Togashi ends up dead.

The Guest List, by Lucy Foley: On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. It’s a perfectly-planned destination wedding — but of course, someone turns up dead.

Hot to Trot, by M.C. Beaton: Jealously investigating an ex’s intended, Agatha Raisin crashes the wedding only to become implicated in the bride’s murder, and immersed in the cutthroat equestrian world.

Exiles, by Jane Harper: At a busy festival site on a warm spring night, a baby lies alone in her stroller, her mother vanishing into the crowds.

The Golden Spoon, by Jessa Maxwell: Julia Child meets Agatha Christie? Passion for baking goes awry, and a burner gets turned to high, during the 10thseason of a popular cooking competition.

And that’s just for starters. Get great book recommendations from fellow reader, and share your own favorites.

Menlo Park’s Mystery Readers Group meets online on the third Wednesday of each month. Rather than reading the same book, all share our reading of different books surrounding a particular theme (love, for instance).
