Ubuntu Scholarship Program awards $10,000 to two M-A grads
Menlo-Atherton High School alum Rob Jensen let us know the Ubuntu Scholarship Program has announced the awarding of financial grants to two graduating African-American seniors from Menlo-Atherton High School to assist with their continued education.
This year’s awardees are Mariah Hawkins and Janiya Moss, who will attend San Francisco State and North Carolina Central University, respectively. Each student will receive $10,000 grants from the program (funded over a four-year college career).
Janiya and Mariah join the program’s ten previous Ubuntu Scholars who are continuing at universities including UCLA, Oregon State, LSU, San Jose State, San Francisco State, and Langston University. Numerous Ubuntu Scholars have achieved academic honors from their colleges, including Dean’s List, Presidential Honor Roll, and Academic Honor Roll, while continuing their community service activities.
The Ubuntu Scholarship Program is seeking additional support to continue to support worthy students with their educations. Donations are tax deductible per current tax law, and 100% of donations support the scholars — all costs associated with the program are covered by Ubuntu committee members.
Donations can be sent to Menlo-Atherton High School Alumni Association, attn.: Vice President, 301 Emerson Street, Palo Alto, CA 94301; checks should be payable to Menlo-Atherton High School Alumni Association, with Ubuntu Scholarship Program in the memo line.
