Willow Oaks Park Playground and Dog Park reopening on June 29

by Contributed Content on June 26, 2024

On Saturday, June 29, the Willow Oaks Park Playground and Dog Park will re-open with special events planned from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

Willow Oaks Park closed in October 2023 to provide upgrades to the park, including playground renovations, dog park enhancements, a new restroom building, resurfacing of the basketball court, and tennis court lighting upgrades. When designing the new facilities, it was important for the City to preserve the existing trees.

A key focus of the playground was to provide more accessibility for children with all abilities, which includes new equipment and a rubberized surface around all play areas. The dog park was enlarged, and features a new water fountain and dog drinking station at the entry gate and an all-weather surface.

To improve the connectivity for the surrounding neighborhood, a new pathway connecting Willow Oaks Park from the intersection of Pope Street and Elm Street was added and pathways throughout the park were reconstructed.

New picnic tables and benches were added throughout to provide a welcoming experience for the community. Park maintenance also included the installation of utility lines, drains and improvements to grading.

The construction of the playground, dog park and pathways are complete, and will be open for use after the ribbon cutting June 29. Additional work will continue on the tennis courts, restroom building, and parking lot off of Willow Road, with all work expected to be complete later this summer.

If you are driving to the ribbon cutting event, please plan to park in the lot off of Pope Street and Elm Street near Silicon Valley International School at 475 Pope St.
