Film Screening: Indians Like Us on October 14 at Menlo Park Library

by Contributed Content on October 12, 2024

In recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day, the Menlo Park Library shares this insightful documentary showing some true outsiders getting an inside look at Native American heritage and struggles.

The screening takes place on Monday, October 14, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm at the main library (800 Alma St.)

It tells the story a small band of folks in France who share a passion for everything Native American — in fact, these enthusiasts have such a sincere admiration of Native culture that every weekend they dress in their self-made Indian regalia to make appearances at various French village fairs.

Finally, they make the trip to North America and take a two-week drive across the Midwest, discovering along the way that the reality of contemporary Native Americans is quite different from what they’d imagined.

Filled with unforeseen emotion, this charming road movie visits Pine Ridge, Wounded Knee and Little Big Horn, capturing surreal and enlightening encounters along the way.

This free event received funding support from the Friends of the Menlo Park Library.
