Bird enthusiast Rick Morris now offering owl tours

by Linda Hubbard on November 22, 2024

Menlo Park resident — and avid birder— Rick Morris started offering walking bird tours in January of this year, expanding to late afternoon owl tours at the end of April.

“To date, I’ve organized and led 68 bird tours, 45 of which were the owl tours. The tours are going strong and in full force,” he reports.

The owl tour runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm.

“This is a driving tour where we go to three locations (Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Redwood City), and we get out and see the owls. Only a bit of walking is involved at one of the locations.

“Right now the owl species for my owl tour are a barn owl (top), a burrowing owl (bottom photo), and a western screech owl (in the tree). The customers typically ride in my car where I have room for four additional people but I always provide the option to follow me in their own car.

“Recently, I created my IntheWildwithRick Bird and Owl Tours business account on Nextdoor where you can see 18 recommendations and reviews about my customer’s tour experiences.

“I have received multiple requests recently for gift certificates for my tours for the holidays so just wanted to make everyone aware that gift certificates are available for my private and public group tours. Just contact Rick at inthewildwithrick@gmail.com or on my nextdoor business account for pricing and further information.”

Rick is also offering 2025 bird calendars and currently has three published:
1) Owls of the San Francisco Bay Area
2) Hummingbirds of the San Francisco Bay Area
3) Birds of the San Francisco Bay Area (includes Owls, Hummingbirds and other birds)

Calendars can be seen on his blog.
