Spring is a great time for hiking with the whole family

Here are tips to explore the outdoors with the whole family this spring.
- Turn it into an adventure: “Let’s find the biggest tree!” instead of “We’re going hiking.”
- Pack wisely: More snacks and water than you think, layers, comfy shoes, and a mini first-aid kit.
- Bring a fun extra: Binoculars, bubbles, or a disposable camera make the journey even better.
Need ideas for where to go? Here are POST picks in the Bay Area:
- Pearson-Arastradero Preserve: Wide easy trails, great for beginners.
- Skyline Ridge Preserve: Lakes, a nature center, and wildflowers.
- Bear Creek Redwoods: Look for turtles, banana slugs, and benches for snack breaks.
- Russian Ridge Preserve: Head to the Mindego parking area for access to a short, flat trail — perfect to bring grandparents along.
