Ubuntu Scholarship Program announces 2025 award winners

Menlo-Atherton High School alum Rob Jensen let us know the Ubuntu Scholarship Program awarded financial grants to four graduating African-American seniors from M-A to assist with their continued education.

This year’s awardees are Mattea Harris, Nevaeh Knight, Haniyah Knight, and Tatiola Sobomehin. Mattea will attend San Jose State, Nevaeh and Haniyah will attend Texas Southern University, and Tatiola will continue at University of Southern California.

The scholars’ community service activities include providing food and clothing to the homeless and serving in leadership positions in M-A and community organizations and clubs.

Each student will receive a $10,000 grant from the program (funded over a four-year college career). This year’s scholars will join the program’s 12 previous Ubuntu Scholars who are continuing at universities including UCLA, Oregon State, LSU, San Jose State, North Carolina Central, and San Francisco State.  This year also saw the program’s first college graduate, an Honor’s Graduate from Oregon State.

The Ubuntu Scholarship Program is seeking tax deductible donations to continue to support worthy students with their educational goals. 100% of donations support the scholars — all costs associated with the program are paid by Ubuntu committee members.
