Landscape paintings by Scott Johnson are featured in July at Portola Art Gallery

“Capturing the Moment,” a collection of landscape paintings by Redwood City-based artist Scott Johnson is on view in July 2025 at the Portola Art Galley in the Allied Arts Guild (75 Arbor Rd.). The artworks are directly inspired by the artist’s ever-evolving personal connection to our natural world and the humility that comes with trying to capture something much larger and more complex than ourselves.

Scott will be available to meet and discuss his work on Saturday, July 19 from 1:00-4:00 pm; he is also available by appointment at the gallery.

Born in 1977 in the San Francisco Bay Area, Scott focuses much of his artwork on the local landscapes of his California home. Painting exclusively in oils, he strives to capture the world in a style known as impressionistic realism. Though many of his paintings feature iconic locations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Scott also draws inspiration from more “off the beaten path” scenes.

A juried Artist Member of the California Art Club and member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, Scott works directly from nature as much as possible to capture the effect of light, values, and colors that can only be seen in person. He has studied under some of the world’s foremost contemporary landscape and plein air artists, including Joe Paquet and Marc Dalessio. His historical inspiration comes from artists such as John Singer Sargent, Issac Levitan, Joaquín Sorolla, and Ivan Shishkin.
