In a LinkedIn post, Menlo Park Police Chief David Norris said that he plans to retire. He wrote:

“This past week, I notified my department, our City of Menlo Park leadership, and our City Council that I will retire at the end of 2026.

He continued: “There’s still work to do. My good friend Teri Black and her team will be leading the recruitment for my successor at the Menlo Park Police Department, and I am committed to a thoughtful transition that hands an outstanding department to another great leader.”

What he said he was most proud of in a career that spanned a total of 33 years — five in Menlo Park — was helping others grow:

  • Helping young officers become good cops.
  • Helping good cops become great investigators.
  • Helping police officers become leaders.
  • Helping build an organization people are proud to serve and the community trusts.

“That became the most rewarding part of my career.”

“I hope I can spend the next chapter doing that for others.

“I will soon begin a different way of doing it.

“I couldn’t be more excited about what comes next.”
