New coast side park is open to visitors daily

A once-private stretch of the San Mateo County coast is now open for everyone. Don Horsley County Park at Tunitas Creek Beach marks the County of San Mateo’s first newly-created park in more than a decade.

The 58-acre park sits on Highway 1 midway between Half Moon Bay and Pescadero and offers nearly a mile of sandy shoreline, scenic overlooks, picnic areas, interpretive exhibits, and an ADA accessible pathway to the mid-bluff overlook.

The opening caps nearly a decade of conservation and restoration work led by Peninsula Open Space Trust in partnership with San Mateo County Parks. The park is named for the late Supervisor Don Horsley, who championed protecting this stretch of coastline.

The park opens daily at 8:00 am with seasonal closing times. There are no lifeguards on duty, so always keep your eyes on the ocean and watch the waves.
