Ultra runner Dean Karnazes kicks off anniversary festivities at Fleet Feet Sports on Wednesday (10/27) at 7:00 pm

Ultra runner Dean Karnazes is appearing at Fleet Feet Sports Menlo Park on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 pm, the start of four days of free events for runners, triathletes and others eager to blend fitness with fun. It’s all part of the store’s anniversary celebration. Karnazes, the author of Marathon Man and 50/50, has run across the most challenging and inhospitable terrain on the globe, including 135 miles nonstop across Death Valley. He’s noted for completing 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days.
Friday night the 29th the store will be hosting a Diva Night with free foot massages, champagne and chocolate, a women’s health fair with foot and chiropractic assessments, bra fittings, goodie bags and door prizes. “The evening will include a Mom’s Mini Triathlon,” says store spokesperson Lisa Taggart, “The winner gets to pick a charity and we’ll donate $250. The Mini Tri involves fastening up our largest Enell bra, sorting Trigger Point Grid rollers into color-coded bins, and dressing a baby doll in technical fabric and snapping it into a BOB stroller as fast as possible.”
On Saturday, there’s a barbecue from noon to 3:oo pm. “Last year we did it to celebrate our expanded store and we decided to make it an annual event,” says Lisa. “Our Brooks rep will be at the grill so we’re calling it a Brooks-a-cue. We’ll be offering free burgers and hot dogs and drinks to customers.
At 3:00 pm Saturday the Catch the Ghost costumed, fun run kicks off. Kids and adults are welcome, and treats will be given out to all in costume. “The goal of the two-mile race is to catch the “ghost”, dressed in a white sheet,” explains Lisa. “If you tag the ghost, you’ll be given a prize toy (vampire teeth, toy eyeballs, skull plastic rings) that you can take back to the store afterward to receive a free tech T with a commemorative ‘Ghost Run 2010’ logo. The ghost’s identity is a secret, but I can tell you he’s very speedy, the winner of the Portland Marathon. So it might be quite a challenge to catch him!”
A sale featuring markdowns on apparel, accessories and shoes will be going on throughout the anniversary celebration. Fleet Feet Sports is located at 859 Santa Cruz Avenue.
