This summer’s Music@Menlo chamber festival salutes composer Johannes Brahms
The ninth season of chamber music festival Music@Menlo will run from July 22 through August 13, 2011. Titled Through Brahms, this year’s edition explores the music of Johannes Brahms and offers the German composer’s major chamber works juxtaposed with centuries of music by his forebears and artistic heirs.
Led by founders and Artistic Directors David Finckel and Wu Han, the chamber music festival and institute bring to the Peninsula a lineup of many of the world’s most accomplished musicians, scholars, and musicologists, as well as a roster of outstanding young artists, for a three week chamber music experience. All festival events, including symposia, master classes, and other activities, are held at venues in Atherton, Palo Alto, and Menlo Park, California. The complete line up is available online.
Music@Menlo’s Chamber Music Institute, an intensive workshop for outstanding young artists that coincides with the festival, features open master classes, Prelude Performances, and Koret Young Performers Concerts, along with a daylong chamber music Open House, all of which are free and open to the public.
