Capturing the Fall colors of the Eastern Sierras during a photo workshop

Last weekend, my photo buddy Doug Kaye and I along with 10 other photographers attended a Fall colors photography workshop based out of Lee Vining, California. The workshop, Eastern Sierra Fall Color: Composition and Creativity Among the Aspens, was led by landscape photographer Michael Frye along with Mike Osborne.
The timing couldn’t have been better for this workshop — the aspen trees were at their peak of Fall color — and we spent most of three days out and about each morning and late afternoon shooting images when the light was best. Michael and Mike know the area around Lee Vining very well and took us to some of their favorite — and unique — locations.
The combination of peak color, beautiful daylight, and special locations — along with what photographic skills we could bring to bear — resulted in some wonderful images. I’ve included one of mine here — you can find more that I’ve posted on Google+. You can view some of Doug’s images on his website or on Google+. Doug and I both agreed that this was the best photo workshop we’ve taken — all the result of the effort that Michael and Mike put into helping us experience the Eastern Sierras in such a beautiful way.
You can learn more about Michael’s fine art landscape photography, his prints, books and workshops on his website at michaelfrye.com, Facebook or on Google+. We’re big fans — if you’re looking to learn more about landscape photography in California’s Sierras, Yosemite, etc., Michael’s the guy! And, Michael’s wife Claudia lived in Menlo Park during her childhood years!
