From a mighty oak comes firewood – and a business for Nikolai Ambwani

by Linda Hubbard on December 22, 2013

About six months ago an oak tree fell on the Ambwani property in west Menlo Park. It got chopped into burnable bits, which 8th grader Nikolai is selling — $2.00 for five logs.

“I’m earning some money, plus if we’d kept the wood in the yard it would have attracted bugs and stuff,” said the young entrepreneur.

With the help of his mom, Valerie, as driver, Nikolai will deliver within an two-miles radius. Folks who live further away can pick up the logs at the Ambwani house. Those interested in making a purchase can call (650) 327-9110.

When not working at his log business, Nikolai plays playing lacrosse and basketball and skiing.

He said he’ll use proceeds for his log selling to buy Christmas presents for his family. And what does he want from Santa?

“A gift card for my favorite store, GameStop,” he replied.
