Spotted: Please don’t feed the coyotes! Really?

by Linda Hubbard on January 15, 2014

A favorite walking route for west Menlo Park residents is the trail along San Francisquito Creek, which stretches from near the end of Oak Avenue at Sand Hill Blvd. to the San Mateo Drive bike bridge.

Today we spotted a coyote alert sign warning people to monitor their pets. Coyotes are not an unusual sight just before sunrise on the lands surrounding the Big Dish, but evidently at least one wily coyote has figured out how to make his/her way down the near dry creek bed to more residential areas.

One surprise: Do people really need to be warned not to feed the coyotes?

I think the sign is clever tongue in cheek, like “watch you pets and don’t let them become coyote food.” Don’t let Fifi be eaten!

Also, don’t leave pet food outside in coyote territory.
