Love is in the hair – easy to make Valentines accessories

by Alexis Murphy on February 8, 2014

Love is in the hair_twoEditor’s note:  Here’s another creative idea for Valentines Day, thanks to Menlo Park resident Alexis Murphy. You can get other ideas from her website Jac ‘o lyn Murphy (a combination of her childrens’ names, Jack and Carolyn) and on her Etsy Valentines page.

This year, love will be in the hair, whether it’s a ponytail or headband — oh so “lovely” and easy to make.
The only supplies are rhinestone letter slide charms & ruffle or fold-over elastic. (I got it all at Joann Fabrics)

Cut the elastic to desired length, being sure to cut at an angle, to make threading through charm easier,
then slide on the LOVE.

Love is in the hair_threeWhen you are finished, tie the two ends of the elastic together tightly. To prevent fraying, carefully and lightly burn ends with lighter or match. I also slightly burn at the knot to ensure it stays tied…

The length will vary slightly due to type of elastic, size of head for headband and hair thickness, but for our ponytail holder, I cut to 8 inches. For our headband: I cut to 13 inches.

So pull your hair back, put on the LOVE and have a great Valentine’s Day!
