Music@Menlo announces 2014 Summer Festival: Around Dvořák
Music@Menlo announces its 2014 summer festival, Around Dvořák, an exploration of the self-described simple Czech musikant Antonín Dvořák, whose influence would be felt as far as the United States.
By way of eight Concert Programs, four artist-curated Carte Blanche Concerts, four multimedia Encounter lectures, and a host of ancillary events, Music@Menlo examines the unfolding dynamic between the Viennese Classical tradition and the passionate nationalist expressions of a generation of Central European composers. Featuring works by composers from Haydn, Beethoven, and Brahms to Bartók, Janáček, and Kodály, the festival surveys the world Around Dvořák.
Music@Menlo’s thematic programming connects its main-stage performances with its lectures and the Institute’s open-access public activities to offer a complete musical and educational experience, most powerful when enjoyed in full.
The 2014 festival runs from July 18 through August 9, 2014. Visit the festival’s website for full details
