Two Menlo-Atherton High School graduating seniors, Emily Grose (pictured right) and Tatiana Pauga, have won $5,000 scholarships toward their college tuition in the fall of 2014, funded by the Atherton Police Activities League.

Emily participated in cross country, junior varsity swimming and frosh/soph volleyball while still maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. She has also worked in Guatemala as part of the “Pride Pals” program she co-founded for special needs patients in third world countries and on the high school campus. She has also won honors as an AP scholar, completed community service work at Willow Oaks Elementary as a tutor, and was in intern for the American Red Cross.

Emily writes, “I grew up observing my mother helping others; she inspired my love of community service…I will continue my dream of bringing opportunities to others.”

She plans to major in Public Health and obtain a medical degree and/or a Master’s degree.

Tatiana  has participated in club volleyball, played basketball and was on the school’s varsity team for softball. She volunteers with the Redwood City PAL program at Taft Elementary, works with the “Rebuilding Together” organization, and helps out at a homeless shelter all while maintaining a 3.3 GPA.

Tatiana writes, “I want to create a program that will mentor young teenagers, especially the Polynesian community, through high school and to also help guide them towards college. I want to use the skills I will acquire through college to help my community thrive in education and justice.”

She plans to major in Biology and later become a Forensic Scientist.

The Atherton Police Activities League is a non-profit organization where all donations are tax deductible (501(c)(3). Donations to P.A.L. are used to bridge the gap between youth and the police, which include scholarships to high school seniors attending an Atherton school.
