Your donations help Veterans at Menlo VA get ready for interviews and employment
I volunteer for the NextStep Veterans Resource Center located on the Menlo Park VA campus. The Center assists Veterans who are soon to be discharged in finding housing, employment, education as well as obtaining VA benefits, clothing, and more.
For the Veterans beginning to interview for jobs, I created a Clothes Closet. Many of the formerly homeless Veterans have nothing appropriate to wear and nothing to carry their valuables/papers in when out interviewing or when going to appointments.
Nothing is ever re-sold. I personally work with each Veteran to make sure they have what they need to feel confident in their appearance. The men and women range in age from in their 20s up to those in their 70s.
They are so very thankful for donations of clothing, shoes, and backpacks. I have had Veterans wait three hours till I arrive just for shoes, good looking clothes, or a backpack. I don’t give out stained or torn items and always check the fit of the clothes and shoes to make sure that they look and feel great.
I do receive some donations from Fleet Feet in Menlo Park and REI as well as from a few other stores and friends, but I am in dire need of good quality casual and dress clothes, mostly for men (sizes M-3X). Any donor can receive a donation receipt. Next Step Veteran Resource Center (VRC) is a tax-exempt, 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
Donations can be dropped off in Menlo Park at Menlo Shirt Laundry & Dry Cleaners (1115 Chestnut St.) or at NextStep (Veterans Administration Menlo Park, Bldg. #348, 795 Willow Rd. Attn: Laurel Lipsick). Monetary donations sent to NextStep would also be welcomed and tax deductible.
