Ribbons on StanleyThe people who take Pilates from Menlo Park resident Lisa Burnett know that she is also a devoted equestrian.

This past weekend she teamed with her trainers’ medium-sized pony, Stanley, as entrants in the Sonoma Horse Show.

She emails: “I train at Strideway Barn in Portola Valley, owned by Nancy Hey and assistant trainer Erin Peterson [pictured above with Lisa and Stanley]. Nancy has wonderful school ponies and horses to teach ages six and up.

“Stan is a love and so smart and cute. We had a very successful couple of days, reliving my childhood. First day we got reserve champion in long stirrup hunters and won the Outreach medal. Next day we won both Equitation over fences classes, and placed 2nd in equitation on the flat. And we won champion overall!

“Each class is a mini performance that lasts two minutes. Nerves run high with lots of adrenaline. You try to keep an even pace and make nice turns. It’s very challenging. We kept it together and didn’t make too many mistakes. It was wonderful.”
