Portola Vineyards hosts 5th annual series of summer jazz concerts
For five years, Portola Vineyards has offered music during the summer. This year the series has a name: Portola Vineyards Summer Jazz.
“We really want this to be a community event,” said Debbie Lehmann, the winery and vineyard manager. “Our members know about us but we’re hoping to get people who aren’t familiar with us to enjoy some good music.”
The lineup this year includes El Desayuno (July 19 – sold out), Fred Randolph Quintet (August 2) and Rocio Guitard with Charged Particles (August 16). Attendees are invited to bring a picnic dinner; wine tasting as well as wine purchases will be available.
“We have great jazz musicians in this area, and the concerts are a way to expose people to their music in a casual setting,” said Debbie. “We’re very fortunate to have Jon Krosnick, who plays drums with Charged Particles, as our artistic director.”
Also at the winery/vineyard this summer is a repeat of the very successful barn dance that was held in 2013. “You don’t need to know how to do any steps, the caller is very good,” explained Debbie. “We hold this on the opposite end of the property from where the concerts are. People get to dance amidst the vines! It will probably coincide with harvest, which we expect to be early.”
The barn dance will take place on August 23 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and is open to kids and adults alike. Attendees are welcome to picnic on the grounds from 5:00 to 6:00. Tickets are available online.
Portola Vineyards is located at 850 Los Trancos Road in Portola Valley.
