Jogger hit and killed by car early this morning in Menlo Park

Update: The jogger that was killed was identified as Bagchi Amit Goutam, 41, or Palo Alto

At approximately 6:45 am this morning (12/19/15), the Menlo Park Police Department, Menlo Park Fire District. and San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Sand Hill Road and Santa Cruz Avenue on a report of a vehicle versus. pedestrian crash.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel immediately began to provide medical aid to a male subject found lying in the roadway just east of the intersection. The subject was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.

At this time, the identity of the pedestrian was not known, and efforts to positively identify him are being made by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office. The identity of the driver of the vehicle is not being released at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation.

The Menlo Park Police Department with the assistance of the South San Mateo County Accident Investigation Team is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this accident. Due to the complexity of this type of investigation, Sand Hill Road between Santa Cruz Avenue and Oak Avenue had to be closed for several hours.
