Kidnapping attempt reported in Atherton

At 2:09 am this morning (3/19), Atherton Police received a wireless 9-1-1 call from a 24-year-old female Menlo Park resident who was the victim of an attempted kidnapping. The suspect is a male adult driving a lowered 4-door sedan. The incident occurred while the victim waited for a bus near Oak Grove Avenue and Middlefield Road.

The suspect circled the area, soliciting the victim for sex. The suspect ultimately exited his car and pursued the victim on foot while she was on the phone with 9-1-1 dispatchers. The suspect caught the victim, but fled when she screamed. The victim was not injured.

Both Menlo Park and Atherton Police officers responded to the area immediately, but were unable to locate the suspect. The Atherton Police Department is investigating this crime and requests anyone with information contact 650-688-6500 with information. Officers will be canvasing the neighborhood for surveillance cameras.
