Google and McDonald’s team up for a free meal at McDonald’s this weekend

by Contributed Content on July 13, 2016

From Friday through Sunday, you can get a complimentary meal (worth $9.00) at the McDonald’s in Menlo Park (1100 El Camino) by paying with Hands Free by Google, part of a wider Google promotion covering the fast food franchise’s locations in the South Bay.

You’ll need to say “I’ll pay with Google” when you are at the register. At select stores visual identification is used to further simplify checkout.

When a customer comes up to the register, the in-store camera uses the photo that the customer uploaded to the app to identify that the customer is there and then presents that photo to the cashier on his/her register for verification.

All images and data from the in-store camera are only used to confirm the identity and are deleted immediately afterward from the camera and cannot be accessed by the store and are not sent to or saved to Google servers.
