Just in the nick of time before school starts — M-A on Aug. 17 and Laurel/Encinal on Sept. 1 — Marsh Road from Middlefield to Fair Oaks will reopen on Saturday, Aug. 13, between 5:00 and 6:00 pm.

Some remedial work will be done over the next week to complete the sewer line restoration, re-striping the roadway, removal of signage/barricades, removing secondary by-pass materials, and minor pavement repairs. This work, which should be completed by August 26, will be done under a simple lane closure with directed traffic in both directions.

This notice was posted on the Town of Atherton website: “The successful completion of this project would not have been possible without the coordination of the County, the cities of Menlo Park and Redwood City, the Sheriff’s Office, the CHP, Menlo Fire, West Bay Sanitary District, the Town and most importantly, the public.

“The project came with significant improvements as well as some significant impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. The collaboration, cooperation and patience of the neighbors helped make this project a success.”

The Atherton Channel (aka “ditch” to long-time residents) walls and floor were repaired, and a metal railing to prevent vehicles from driving into the Channel from Marsh Road was installed.

The photo shows the Channel on August 10th with improvements near completion.

I am amazed after the 70 plus I have lived near the “ditch” it is still there.I remember when they covered up a portion years ago, and never understand why they just didn’t cover the entire “ditch” along side Marsh Road. There are ways to move the water from the creek to the bay lands . After all this work and years of avoiding the short concrete barrier, they still haven’t completely covered the creek..Why?
