The morning rain in Menlo Park comes with loud thunder clap

by Linda Hubbard on January 19, 2017

Afternoon update: Emails Bill: “I can add .2″ to my morning total and am now at 17.4″ season-to-date.”

No, your ears weren’t deceiving you. That was one loud clap of thunder this morning around 9:00 am. Given the almost simultaneous display of lightening, it must have been right over Menlo Park.

An hour or so earlier InMenlo weather watcher Bill Russ had sent his report: “An additional .7″ during the night and early morning. In my backyard the season-to-date total is 17.2″. The last ‘big’ rain year was 05′-06′ with a total of 24.35″. At this date in 2006, the total was 12.5″. January 2006 was quite dry and March was very wet. January 2017 seems ‘wet’ to me.”
