The great stand of California poppies on Stock Farm Road just off of Sand Hill is in full bloom. A true herald that spring is coming soon.

I was born in a small town in central California in 1950. I remember driving out to see the magic carpet of orange and purple wild flowers growing in the foothills above our town every year to see the carpet of wild Orange Poppies and purple Vetch and Lupine. It was magical and wonderful to see all of Mother Nature’s carpet of vivid color stretched out before us. Unfortunately over the last fifty years Nature’s colorful carpet has been in such decline it is no longer possible to see the magic of Mother Nature’s beauty covering every inch of the rolling hills above my hometown. While it is still possible to see some areas covered by the Orange and bright purple of her beautiful Poppies and Lupine the magic of the never ending carpet has disappeared leaving only patches of color. I can’t help but think that before long I will never look upon Mother Nature’s magical carpet again. Drought and the loss of wild spaces taking Mother Nature’s beauty away from us, taking the magic from our eyes and the beauty from our hearts…
