We have had a heatpump water heaters since 2021. It works great.
We programmed the water heater to “super-heat” the water during the hours when there is plenty of solar power and then lower the set-point at 4pm when the electricity mix begins to shift away from solar (and electricity prices go up). So the water heater acts like a battery, helping the grid and saving us money at the same time.
