Updated rainfall and severe thunderstorm warning

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning on Feb. 19 for San Mateo County until 4:30 pm PST.

At 3:54 pm PST, a severe thunderstorm was located near Woodside, moving northeast at 35 mph with wind gusts up to 60 mph. Expect damage to roofs, siding and trees.

Locations impacted include Atherton, Menlo Park and Woodside.

According to the weather service, the thunderstorm is capable of producing all types of severe weather including extremely large hail, destructive straight line winds and
tornadoes. Move quickly to a safe shelter such as an interior room, a
bathroom, closet or basement.

Meanwhile, as I write this at 4:15 pm, there is blue sky overhead. And winds are relatively calm; it was much gustier 30 minutes ago.

InMenlo weather watcher Dennis Nugent updated rainfall report as of 4:10 pm: 0.51″ for today; 4.23″ in February, and 15.46″ season-to-date.
