Schapelhouman Fire Museum open Saturday, September 28

The Schapelhouman Fire Museum (700 Oak Grove Ave., Menloo Park) will be open on Saturday, September 28 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
About the most recent open house, retired Chief Harold Schapelhouman emailed:
“Charles Marsala, the former mayor of Atherton who now lives in New Orleans, Louisiana, came to visit the Schapelhouman Museum and Carriage House last month. Like every one who visits, he not only was given a tour with a verbal history, but most importantly, a fire badge sticker and red plastic fire helmet!
“Many residents don’t know that the Fire District provides emergency services to the communities of Atherton, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and the Unincorporated Areas of San Mateo County, including North Fair Oaks, and the history of the Fire District encompasses all of those areas, not just Menlo Park.
“[We’re pictured] in the doorway of the Fire Districts 1899 Carriage House, one of the oldest remaining structures in Menlo Park and one of only a few original Fire Houses nationwide that also still stores the Fire Districts first piece of horse drawn fire equipment, a 1900 Hose Wagon built by Larkin and Company out of San Francisco that is still in its original condition.”
