Free Household Hazardous Waste event in Menlo Park on Nov. 9
In partnership with the County of San Mateo Health, the City of Menlo Park is hosting a free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection event on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm.
All waste collected is reused, recycled or stabilized for proper disposal to achieve zero waste. This prevents any items from going to the landfill and contaminating water and soil. No electronic, radioactive, explosive or medical waste is accepted. This event is open to all who live in San Mateo County.
Accepted items include:
- Cleaning products
- Fertilizers and garden chemicals
- Pesticides, herbicides and rodenticides
- Solvents
- Flammable liquids
- Fluorescent lights (compact and tubes)
- Paint thinner, acids/bases and aerosol cans
- Automotive supplies (car batteries, motor oil, oil filters, antifreeze, brake fluid)
To participate, you must schedule an appointment at San Mateo County’s HHW Program or by calling (650) 372-6200. The event location will be disclosed once your appointment is confirmed. There is a limit of 10 gallons or 50 pounds per appointment (per car load). If you have greater than 10 gallons, you must schedule an appointment for each 10 gallons of waste and make separate vehicle trips for each appointment. No commercial waste is allowed.
Residents unable to attend this event can still dispose of HHW for free at San Mateo County’s HHW facility Thursdays-Saturdays. You must make an appointment online or call (650) 372-6200.

The form on the San Mateo County HHW site is not working – only San Mateo city dates are listed, and that cannot be changed. I tried with multiple browsers. People should call instead.
