Oak on Lucky Avenue soon to be no more

Emails Sherry Stack: “I have lived on Lucky Avenue for 52 years, and we have had an oak tree living in the middle of the street for all those years. It must be at least 80 years old. Recently the county arborist declared it to be unhealthy and it is to be cut down tomorrow.

“It has been such a gorgeous tree all these years, and seemed to show that our little part of Menlo Park was a country, wild place. It harbored a bee hive for many years, and so many generations of squirrels have scampered through its branches.

“I left flowers for it and there was a flock of tiny birds flitting about. I have seen hawks gazing down from its highest branches. Some neighbor children have written thank you notes to our tree.

“I thought you should know. It is a mighty, mighty oak and our little street will be a little less special without it.”
