Goodwill Boutique in downtown Menlo Park set to close on January 11

Emailed Menlo Park resident Jennifer Rosen Heinz:
“I was at the Goodwill Boutique in downtown Menlo Park on Santa Cruz Avenue [this past week] and found out that they are closing their doors on 1/11 [as the lease is up]. The staff got notice of the store closing less than a week ago.
“The staff started a petition on change.org to try and save the Boutique. There is also a petition to sign at the cash register.

“Employees have been told they can be transferred to other positions in the area, but the employee I spoke with said that most of the folks who work there use public transit to get to work, and that relocating to another GW may be extremely upending for folks’ lives.
“As a more recent transplant to Menlo Park, the GW Boutique has always been a draw for me. I remember when I first visited before moving and treating myself to a little baked goodie at Mademoiselle Colette and browsing the Goodwill and the Cancer Society Thrift shops were like a little slice of heaven. It’s become a staple of my weekly routine, and I’ll be sad for the community and the employees to see it go.”

It’s rather good news. We need more local shops in Menlo Park! We have enough re-sale and rug shops!

Josephine, it is too bad that you don’t recognize the value of a ship like the Goodwill. However I can see how empty storefronts and “for lease” signs might make some happier.

That’s awful news. I just signed the petition online: https://www.change.org/p/urge-goodwill-sf-bay-to-renew-the-lease-or-relocate-the-menlo-park-boutique

This is so sad. I love to shop and browse in this store and I love that clothing is being reused and repurposed. This store actually brings me into Menlo Park to shop. Will be signing the petition for sure.

I wish to say that I’m sad to see this happen. I go to this shop at least 2 or three times a month. I hope that it will be reopened. Maryam Young

It’s too bad that this is happening, I hope that there’s something that can be done to keep us very unique shop open. I frequent this establishment at least 2 to 3 times a month and find many unique things that I like to purchase. Please keep this shop open thank you. Natalee

This is such a bummer. This store is what brings me to shop in downtown Menlo. I hope they find a solution and reopen

So sad. I have shopped here for 20 years.
