City of Menlo Park reviews “Willow Park” application
The City of Menlo Park completed the consistency review for the development proposal at 80 Willow Road, referred to as “Willow Park” in the application (pictured). The application was reviewed for consistency with development standards. On Jan. 13, the City found the application to be inconsistent for multiple items by planning, housing, building, sustainability, engineering, transportation, and the city arborist.
The next step in this project is to initiate the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) process. City staff will be releasing a request for proposals for CEQA consultant services.
The City continues to make application materials available for viewing at City Hall, preferably by making an appointment online.

I would be surprised if the owner/developers get investors for this monstrosity. Maybe another out of town Russian will throw some Benjamins into the pit, but commercial property’s been in trouble for years, and its future in California looks poor. California’s too regulated to be business friendly, and the residential prices coupled with remote and hybrid work make commercial projects in California appear a bad investment. I think investors are looking to rebuild LA, where they are temporarily going to relax permitting. LA’s where there’s a demand and a quick turn around.
