Update on 80 Willow Road development application

The City of Menlo Park continues to process the development proposal at 80 Willow Road, referred to as “Willow Park” in the application. On Jan. 24, the City released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for consultant services to perform environmental review in accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). RFP responses are due Feb. 28, 2025. Once a qualified consultant is selected, City Council approval of a professional services contract would follow, and the CEQA work would begin.
As a first step, the CEQA consultant prepares an Initial Study (IS) that serves as a preliminary analysis to determine the relative environmental impacts associated with a proposed project. It is designed as a measuring mechanism to determine if a project could have a significant adverse effect on the environment. The level of environmental review will be determined based on the potential impacts and feasibility of mitigation measures. For more information about the environmental review process and other commonly asked questions, please visit the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section at menlopark.gov/80Willow.
The CEQA process includes opportunities for public input. Future project milestones and public meetings regarding this project will be listed at menlopark.gov/80Willow and communicated to project subscribers.
The public may view the application materials, including architectural drawings, in person at City Hall, preferably by an appointment which can be made online.

Looking at the picture of the proposed Willow Park building feels like a nightmare,
I lived in the Willows neighborhood about 1/2 mile from the former Sunset Magazine for 50 years. I have never seen an uglier building and can’t imagine it fitting into this mainly residential area. And I can’t imagine how the city of Menlo Park can even think of considering it.
NO, please.

That’s the city of Menlo Park for you, and all of us!! As a former business and property owner for decades until recently in Menlo Park, I can tell you that I ALWAYS felt that the city was POORLY RUN at best. Though I’m terribly sorry that I had to close my successful business in Menlo Park, I am so happy not to have anything to do with the bureaucracy in Menlo Park any longer!!!
