City of Menlo Park Aquatics Working Group wants your feedback on April 8
The Aquatics Working Group provides feedback about the City of Menlo Park’s two swim centers, Burgess Pool and Belle Haven Pool.
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, come to the Belle Haven Community Center (100 Terminal Avenue) to share your perspective and learn more about the two swim centers.
This working group meeting will focus on a financial overview of the aquatic program and proposed updates to aquatic fees.

I am on the Board of a Swim, Tennis, and Fitness club and attended the Mar 4 City Council meeting where this issue was discussed.
You should assume very little recreational swim occurring outside of the summer months and late-spring-early-fall weekends. We have a recreational swim pool at our club. In the winter months, it is basically used for swim lessons only (preschool and younger and seniors during school hours). We have a lap pool as well that is used in the winter months by lap swimmers, a masters’ team, and our year-round youth swim team.
In the winter months, for Belle Haven, you either need to 1. reduce hours or 2. drive additional demand for lessons and swim teams, the times of which are limited when dealing with school-aged children.
If you do #2, from the Mar 4 City Council meeting, it sounds like the pool needs to be updated to accommodate teams. There are a plethora of teams in the area that would love to rent such a pool if properly equipped. I have to believe Team Sheepa knows all this and is very capable of #2 if that is the route you want to go. Otherwise, you need to reduce the hours.

I think this meeting means the use fees are going to rise. Well, the Burgess Park location cannot afford to repair or replace the broken spin dryer, so finance’s must be tight. I do try to use the pool two or three days a week. Good exercise for me (86) and for other oldies.
