Menlo Park-based author Barry Eisler to appear at Kepler’s on June 6

Author Barry Eisler will be at Kepler’s on publication day — Friday, June 6 at 6:00 pm — of his latest title, The System. Described by Ryan Grim as “a literary hat trick: a gripping thriller; a steamy love story; and a compelling depiction of how power is really exercised in America,” The System is political without being partisan. Its focus is not on finding distinctions between right and left, GOP and Democrat; it is on the Faustian bargaining that can ensnare even the most idealistic change makers.
As with all his fiction, The System draws on Eisler’s own experience as a CIA agent and his meticulous research of real-life government operations and current affairs. These include a Pentagon program called Götterdämmerung that combines AI with nuclear command-and-control; a US arms race with China; and an anarchist hacker intent on blowing the whistle before it’s too late.
