Gas is out, electric is in: Ordinance enforcement begins July 1

Starting July 1, Menlo Park’s ban on gas-powered leaf blowers and string trimmers will move into its enforcement phase.

Under the City’s Zero Emission Landscaping Equipment (ZELE) Ordinance, operating gas-powered tools within the City is prohibited to reduce air and noise pollution and support a cleaner, healthier environment.

The Menlo Park Police Department will begin issuing citations to property owners, with progressive fines per offense up to $500. The ordinance applies to residential, commercial and public spaces.
