Willie Mays Collection up for auction — in person and online

It was Willie May’s wish upon his passing to auction off his personal collection to support the efforts of the Say Hey Foundation.

The Willie Mays Collection auction will take place on Saturday, September 27 at 10:30 am at the King Street Warehouse at 128 King St., adjacent to Oracle Park. Limited time frames of free public viewings are still available ahead of the auction.

An online-only auction [scroll down] featuring hundreds of additional items will follow on Sunday, September 28, through 7:00 pm.

Emailed former Menlo Park Fire Protection District Chief Harold Schapelhouman (pictured third from left next to Mays):

“Willie Mays was more than a baseball icon and legend, he was a genuinely generous, kind, funny, honorable and good man. He was an Atherton resident, constituent, supporter, donor, customer and friend.”

Harold points out that among the online auction items is a Willie Mays Fire Department badge with “Say Hey Kid” inlaid in blue with “24” uniform number at the bottom.
