Author/human rights lawyer Philippe Sands appears at The Guild Theatre on November 11
On Tuesday, November 11, at 7:00 pm at The Guild Theatre, Menlo Park, Philippe Sands, best-selling author and international human rights lawyer, will be introducing his newest book, 38 Londres Street: On Impunity, Pinochet in England, and a Nazi in Patagonia, released in the U.S. on October 7.
Sands will be in conversation with Balkees Jarrah, HRW’s Acting Director of the Middle East and North Africa Division and Associate Director of the International Justice Program.
In 38 Londres Street, Philippe Sands presents an exploration of justice and memory, uncovering the hidden ties between a Nazi war criminal and Chile’s Pinochet regime:
Named a Best Book of 2025 So Far by The Economist, this unique blend of memoir and courtroom drama gives us an insider’s view to the Pinochet trial where Sands himself acted as a barrister for Human Rights Watch. What unfolds is a chilling exploration of two men whose fates converge on 38 Londres Street. The story explores the delicate line between justice and absolution in the wake of landmark cases that helped define the international human rights framework we know today.
